England Team for Twenty20 World Cup

May 20th, 2009 · No Comments

The ICC World Cup Twenty20 cricket starts on the 5th June, and ends with the final on June 21st 2009.
England have named their squad of 15, as they look to win the T20 World Title from India on home soil.

England have put together a side which has a nucleus of the current test and one day squad, but England have also picked some Twenty 20 specialist.
Graham Napier is one of those specialist twenty20 players picked, his powerful batting for Essex resulted him scoring 160 in one knock with a world record number of sixes, he also nipped in with wickets too. Napier has further increased his reputation by being picked to play for Mumbai Indians in the lucrative Indian Premier League ( IPL)
mixing with world greats like Sachin Tendulkar and Matthew Hayden.

Other IPL experienced players picked for England include Dimitri Mascarenhas, Owais Shah Ravi Bopara Paul Collingwood and Ravi Bopara.

The Full England Squad is as below:

Paul Collingwood, captain (Durham)
James Anderson (Lancashire)
Ravi Bopara (Essex)
Stuart Broad (Nottinghamshire)
Andrew Flintoff (Lancashire)
James Foster (Essex)
Robert Key (Kent)
Dimitri Mascarenhas (Hampshire)
Eoin Morgan (Middlesex)
Graham Napier (Essex)
Kevin Pietersen (Hampshire)
Owais Shah (Middlesex)
Ryan Sidebottom (Nottinghamshire)
Graeme Swann (Nottinghamshire)
Luke Wright (Sussex)

All-rounder Paul Collingwood will captain hosts England in the ICC World Twenty20 tournament in June.

The 32-year-old has been given the job just nine months after he resigned as one-day skipper.

The 15-strong squad includes uncapped Graham Napier and Eoin Morgan and there are recalls for Kent skipper Rob Key and Essex keeper James Foster.

Andrew Flintoff has been named subject to him regaining full fitness following surgery on his right knee.

Among those left out after being named in the provisional 30-man squad are fast bowler Steve Harmison, who was dropped from the Test squad earlier this week, all-rounder Samit Patel and keepers Matt Prior and Steve Davies.

By recalling Foster seven years after he last represented England, the selectors have acknowledged that he is rated the best gloveman by many on the county circuit.

The 29-year-old keeper told BBC Essex: “I was very surprised to be in the original 30 and I’m quite clearly delighted to be in the squad for this World Cup.
